ONE TO GROW ON: INTEGRITY

Connie

Integrity—that word has changed meaning dramatically in my years here on earth. We’ve long since passed days of not locking our doors or doing business with a handshake. Now lawyers sue to break unbreakable contracts and often win despite previously made agreements. Politicians aren’t held accountable for their actions. Parents abdicate child-rearing responsibilities. People gauge right and wrong by fear of consequences. As the world evolves, changing our own values to fit the twenty-first century morality would be easy; but no matter how the world’s standards fluctuate, God’s precepts don’t. Cutting corners in honesty and sin just because it’s in vogue doesn’t mean we should follow the crowd. God still holds Christians to a higher standard, and those who operate in the gifts are required to show even more uprightness because you represent Jesus through Holy Spirit’s power.

What’s Your Fruit?

Knowing that, Spirit-filled Christians must always be aware of integrity. No matter what or who else justifies shortcuts, we don’t answer to those who measure right and wrong by human standards. We’re the chozeh, and “to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more” (Luke 12:48). Our lives are watched, so we don’t have excess wiggle room. Many who have forgotten they’re separated have fallen. Though we all make character mistakes, we should live daily judging our lives by God’s commandments. Paul told us “to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called” (Eph. 4:1). What do people think of when they say your name? Honesty, integrity, godliness? Some people can hear from God amazingly, but their lives are ambivalent toward Him. They choose to walk after fleshly lusts and then be godly when that suits them. That double-mindedness makes those already leery of the prophetic even warier. If we think so little of this gift that we’re not willing to leave carnal lusts behind, do we truly want God’s deeper things? Are we walking worthy of that calling?

I believe that’s why God said, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated” (Rom. 9:13). Jacob lied, cheated, and wrestled with an angel to get the Father’s blessings. Esau thought so little of his inheritance he sold it for soup. How much do you cherish the Father’s gifts? Do you want them more than that relationship or job that causes compromise? You should constantly assess your life. If something isn’t right, don’t stay out of church because maintaining Christian fellowship helps you get solid. However, take yourself temporarily from leadership and the prophetic stance. Even being lukewarm reflects badly on God and you and makes others lose confidence in the prophetic.

Beware

Prophetic people fall into traps that can affect their hearing from God or influence others receiving the word. One is neglect of our gift. Ezekiel says God has, “made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from [His] mouth and warn them for [Him]” (Ezek.
